Abu Said Al Khudri, radiyallahu anhu (may Allah be pleased with him), said:<\/p>

“In the time of the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu alayhi wasallam (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), we used to pay Zakat Al Fitr with one sa’a of food. And it was our food of that day: dates, barley, raisins, and dried milk.” (Transmitted by Al Bukhari)<\/p>

A sa’a<\/strong> is the measure obtained by filling four times the cupped hands (mudd) with the hands of the Prophet, sallallahu alayhi wasallam (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). That is, the hands of a man of average build. We are talking about approximately 2.5 kg to 3 kg in weight.<\/p>

And what Abu Said mentions in this hadith is the predominant food in Madinah (Medina) Al Munawara at that time. But in any case, the food with which Zakat Al Fitr can be paid includes anything that can be eaten, provided it is the staple food of the locality.<\/p>
